Among the hand-crafted gold pieces on display, the newspaper reports, is a necklace made of Tanimbar gold, which is named after the island. It is an example of gold pendants that are traditionally presented to women of nobility at their weddings. According to Soel Djang Rono, the owner of the collection on display at the pavilion, the same gold necklace is also sometimes used to adorn water buffaloes during ceremonies. Other exhibits at the pavilion include textiles, wood carvings and batik, a form of Arabic calligraphy thought to have originated in Indonesia that can take up to a year to complete. Indonesia officially comprises 17,508 individual islands in the south Pacific ocean including Java, Sumatra and Sulawesi.
