Gold donation to help guide dogsFriday, 8th February 2008 (2452 views) Gold jewellery including chains, rings and watches is to be auctioned and the proceeds donated to a school for guide dogs as part of a thank you from local police.The Bolton Guide Dogs for the Blind centre in Bolton, Lancashire allows student police officers to use its classrooms and provides canines to help new recruits as they train, the Bolton News reports. To show their gratitude, local police have donated £400 worth of unclaimed jewellery from their lost property store. The jewellery will now be auctioned, with the proceeds going towards funding the centre's work. Sergeant Rachael Bedford of the Bolton Area Training Base said: "The staff and volunteers at Bolton Guide Dogs for the Blind have been absolutely fabulous in supporting the training of student officers." The Guide Dogs for the Blind Association has been providing blind and partially-sighted people with trained canine companions for over 75 years. Today, around 5,000 guide dogs are on duty in the UK.
