'Golden desserts' on offer in New YorkWednesday, 9th January 2008 (2622 views) With two desserts containing edible gold on offer, New York restaurant Serendipity 3 has set two Guinness World Records for most expensive after-dinner treats, according to the Guardian. The restaurant features a Golden Opulence Sundae - sweetened caviar, Armagnac and gold leaf in a crystal goblet, served with an 18-carat gold spoon - valued at $1,000 (£506). However, this decadent dessert pales in comparison to Serendipity 3's newest addition, 2007's Frrrozen Haute Chocolate, which is valued at $25,000 (£12,641). The sweet treat is a blend of 28 cocoas infused with flakes of edible 23-carat gold. It is served in a gold-lined goblet and accompanied by a bracelet crafted of gold and diamonds. According to the restaurant, the gold desserts are available by reservation only, which must be made a minimum of 48 hours in advance. Serendipity 3 has a long tradition associated with New York glamour. It has previously boasted artist Andy Warhol as a regular client and has also been visited by former US president Bill Clinton.
