Wednesday, 12th December 2007 (4417 views) Rare gold coins, minted in the Americas from the late 1500s to the mid 1700s for the kings of Spain, are now being used in jewellery items, it has emerged.The Treasure Coins collection, created by Everett Designs, feature original historic Spanish-American colonial coins with irregular shapes that have been discovered in hoards and shipwrecks. Some coins are then mounted in 18-carat gold and used as pendants in a number of jewellery items, including necklaces, earrings and bracelets. Gold coins - also called escudos - used in the collection were originally minted in denominations of eight, four, two and one. In treasure lore, an eight-escudo coin is also known as a doubloon, according to the jeweller. Everett Designs claim that its coin jewellery pieces capture the history of the Spanish colonial era, combining it with artistry and craftsmanship. Each unique piece of Treasure Coins jewellery comes with a certificate of authenticity.
