Placido Domingo creates golden dessertMonday, 3rd December 2007 (2800 views) Famed tenor Placido Domingo has crafted a special Yuletide cake featuring edible gold for a French restaurant in Washington DC, according to Washingtonion.com.The singer, who is also the director of the Washington National Opera, worked with pastry chef Morgan Bomboy to craft the dessert buche de Noel which is comprised of a log of almond sponge cake, chocolate and cream, decorated with marzipan. Designed to be the first in an annual series of holiday desserts celebrating local arts and culture in the American capital city, the foot-long cake is decorated to represent the curtains of a traditional opera house, with tassels made from edible gold. The buche de Noel also features a sheet of music printed on white chocolate and a chocolate plaque bearing Domingo's signature. A conductor's baton made of fondant tops the cake, which claims to "elegantly evoke operatic motifs," according to its creators. Francophiles will be able to find the festive dessert at Washington's Cafe du Parc Eatery, a Parisian-themed bistro located within the city's Willard Intercontinental Hotel, until January 1st.
