Thursday, 15th November 2007 (4401 views) An attempt to steal gold jewellery has been foiled as the suspects were seized at Dubai International Airport, it has emerged.The man - who worked as a salesman in a gold shop in the Naif area of Dubai - was arrested in the airport for stealing more than 80 kg of jewellery from his workplace. Reports indicate that the man was the victim of a double-crossing - after handing some of the valuables to his sister for safekeeping, she is said to have stolen more from his bag and attempted to escape with her husband. A suspicious security officer searched the man's sister's bag and raised the alarm when 14 kg of jewellery was found. Colonel Khalil Ibrahim, deputy director of the general department of criminal investigation, congratulated the police responsible for the arrests and stated that the owner of the shop had been informed. Dubai is also known as the City of Gold due to its souks, or gold markets.
