Friday, 9th November 2007 (4180 views) Gold items, including jewellery woven into fabric and carved into art sculptures, featured prominently in Singapore's JewelFest 2007 event, according to the Manila Standard Today.The event, which is in its fifth year, is considered to be one of the main jewellery showcases in Asia and displayed items valued at more than S$75 million (£24.65 million). Jewelled eggs designed by Faberge featured an 18-carat gold base engraved with precise patterns, while the Epitome range, designed by Citigems, displayed a series of gold lockets. The public director of Word of Mouth Communications, Jansen Siak, told the Manila Standard Today that people in Asia are increasingly on the lookout for unusual-looking jewellery pieces. "It's not just yellow gold anymore but red and yellow gold," he said. "Asians want pieces that are bold, chunky and fancy." According to the newspaper, visitors at the festival travelled from Hong Kong, Malaysia, Indonesia and Taiwan and purchased more than S$4 million in jewellery during the first three days of the event.
