Gold pieces on display in CaliforniaMonday, 5th November 2007 (2554 views) A variety of medieval gold artefacts, including an ornate table fountain, are to be displayed at southern California's J Paul Getty Museum as part of an exhibit on loan from the Cleveland Museum of Art.Entitled Medieval Treasures from the Cleveland Museum of Art, the display is set to run in the Los Angeles until January 20th 2008. Featured in the display are gold pieces from the reign of Charlemagne, including jewelled prayer books and a solid gold "arm reliquary of apostles", according to the University of Southern California's Daily Trojan newspaper. The gold table fountain, considered to be a luxury item, can pumps water through a system of gold tiers topped with jewels. According to the newspaper, medieval nobility used the fountain as a form of dinner entertainment for guests and as a display of their wealth. The collection features art spanning around 1,300 years, from the early Christian and Byzantine periods to the late Medieval period.
