Gold coin dresses modelled in TokyoThursday, 1st November 2007 (2804 views) Students at a design college in Tokyo have crafted three items of clothing covered in Austrian gold coins, which were displayed at a November fashion show in the Japanese city, according to Reuters. The coins, which are on loan from the Austrian Mint Office, were sewn onto the garments in a locked room on the campus of Bunka Fashion College, where instructors were on hand to keep an eye on the developing designs. Valued at more than $1.2 million (£577,112), the coins were sewn onto two jackets and a full-length dress, which weighed ten kilograms when completed, the news source reported. The outfits were then modelled in a fashion show as part of the college's annual festival. Student Yuko Imauji told Reuters that using the gold coins as design items was a lesson in fashion design. "I felt the weight of the task as I sewed on each piece, coin by coin," she said. Bunka Fashion College offers three separate design courses, including an intensive programme of fashion creation designed for students who already hold a university degree or college qualifications.
