A rare white gold Altiplano Tourbillon pocketwatch, crafted by Piaget, has been sold to a collector for $145,000 (£71,400) by Levinson Jewellers in Plantation, Florida, it has been reported.

Jewellers Circular Keystone's (JCK) online magazine said that the watch was the only one of its kind available in the United States and is one of a collection of seven timepieces of its kind, with production of additional watches planned for the future.

The tourbillon mechanism of the Piaget Calibre 602P, which contains 42 individual parts, is hand-wound and is encased in a 40 millimetre white gold exterior.

According to the jeweller, the timepiece - which also comes with a leather strap and a chain made of white gold - was sold to one of its biggest collectors.

In the past 24 years, Levinson Jewellers has expanded its shop from a single booth to a 10,000 square foot retail centre, specialising in rare and personalised jewellery and timepieces.
