With a long family history of involvement in the gold mining industry in Raub, the chairman of Peninsular Gold has decided to expand the rehabilitation project at the abandoned Raub gold mine to include a gold park, which will be open to the public, according to the Star, a Malaysian newspaper.

Datuk Seri Andrew Kam hopes to open his company's gold processing plant, which is currently undergoing reconstruction in the Malaysian mining town, to the public in an effort to turn the historic property into a tourism attraction.

"Tourists will like to see how gold is being extracted," Mr Kam told the newspaper.

"The development of the tourism industry there could be another driver of economic growth," he added.

According to the company, Peninsular's Raub project contains around 180,000 ounces of proven gold resources, with interests that encompass over 210 square kilometres in the central gold belt of Malaysia.

Peninsular Gold intends to outline between one and two million ounces of gold during the operating life of the Raub project, according to its website.
