Thursday, 11th October 2007 (4767 views) The Top Jewellers of India Club has been officially launched in Mumbai by the All India Gems and Jewellery Trade Federation (GJF) in an effort to promote ethical conduct among jewellers and goldsmiths in the country. The first phase of the invitation-only club will run until March 2008, during which time the GJF plans to admit 1,000 jewellers from 50 urban centres in India as either family jewellers or corporate and brand-name jewellers. "For the future, we are looking to get the top manufacturers, wholesalers, designers, goldsmiths, artisans and salespersons to enrol," said Ashok Minawala, chairman of the GJF. The society also unveiled its new trademarked logo at its official launch announcement, which members can display in their shops as a symbol of their integrity in business practices, the GJF said. "It will be promoted as the ultimate recognition and every jeweller who uses this logo and certificate in his store will be telling his clients that he abides by a strict set of rules," Mr Minawala explained. The aims of the new society are in agreement with the Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council, who work to consolidate the members of the Indian jewellery industry and to promote the market abroad.
