Monday, 1st October 2007 (4907 views) As sales of gold and jewellery may begin to increase in the third week of the holy Islamic month of Ramadan, a Qatari newspaper has reported that women in the region are seeking white gold this season.According to the Peninsula, white gold is a popular item this autumn, particularly with young women. Reports from jewellery staff estimate that 15 to 20 per cent of young female shoppers are now favouring white gold over 24-carat gold items, which are traditionally a preferred investment for local jewellery shoppers at this time of year. The holy month of Ramadan ends with Eid al-Fitr, which falls on October 12th this year and marks the beginning of the festival season in the region. It is expected that jewellery sales in the region will continue to gain momentum in the days leading up to the celebration, a Qatari jeweller told the newspaper. Van Cleef & Arpels, a watch and jewellery house, has predicted that high demand for gold jewellery will extend from the Eid festival season until the end of the year.
