Thailand and India 'to join jewellery forces'Tuesday, 17th July 2007 (2815 views) India and Thailand have come to an arrangement whereby they will work together to improve bilateral trade in the gems and jewellery industry, it has been reported.Resource Investor also reveals that Thailand is renowned for its coloured gem stone jewellery while India is well known for its fondness for gold. However, it claims that Indian customers are moving toward a trend for diamond and gold jewellery studded with gemstones. "Thai jewellery is now coming to India. Demand for Thai jewellery is good - nearly 50 per cent of buyers in Thailand are Indian," Atul Jogani, president of Thailand Colourstone Traders Association told Commodity Online earlier this year. Commodity Online recently reported that Thailand had a $200 million (£100 million) trade surplus with India in 2006 while Thailand's exports to India rose by 17 per cent that year totalling $1.8 billion. The India International Jewellery Show is to be held from August to September this year and will be likely to feature much in the way of gold.
