"Positive" response from jewellery design courseTuesday, 17th July 2007 (2673 views) A jewellery design course that taught students how to make gold carat calculations was held in June this year and feedback so far has been "positive" Rapaport News reveals.The International Gemological Institute (IGI) School of Gemology, in conjunction with the Dubai Gold & Jewellery Group, launched the International Professional Jewellery Design programme in Dubai last month. IGI senior instructor Karika Kupur led the two-week long course which included visits to a jewellery factory to observe the gold manufacturing process. The aim of the programme was to teach pupils the basics of professional design. "Until recently, IGI's Jewellery Design programme had been held only in Antwerp, the decision to take the program to an international level has been fruitful and continues to yield very positive feedback from students," IGI chief executive officer Roland Lorie said. Managing director of gold retailer Damas Jewellery Tawhid Abdullah added that it is "essential" to nourish such talent.
