Indian women who work in office environments are opting for a lighter more adaptable style of gold jewellery it has been reported.

According to Reuters, many women want to wear jewellery that can fit in with a professional lifestyle and can be worn both in the office and to the temple.

Shrikant Zaveri, chairman of Tribhovandas Bhimji Zaveri - an Indian gold jewellery house first established in 1864 - told Reuters that the gold jewellery trend has shifted toward everyday wear.

"These women look up to the western world and they have that kind of money, today, women don't want to buy jewellery to keep in the safe. They want to wear it," he told Reuters.

An exhibition dedicated to gold jewellery - Gold Expression 2007 - was recently held in Delhi.
