Tasmania is to give a white gold bracelet to the Danish royal family to mark the christening of a new princess.

Incorporating red glass into the charm bracelet's design, the piece, which has been designed by Diane Allison, uses the two colours to reflect Denmark's flag, reports AAP.

The bracelet can also have additional white gold charms added to it over a period of time.

The tourism Tasmania website describes Ms Allison's work as having a "strong sense of place and a deep connection to Tasmania's history". It also states that her jewellery incorporates traditional metals - such as gold - with non-precious materials.

Tasmania is marking the birth of the new princess as her mother - the crown princess Mary - is a native of the Australian state.

Originally born in Hobart, Tasmania, Princess Mary married into the Danish royal family on May 14th 2004 and gave birth to her first son Christian in October 2005. The naming of the new princess will take place on July 1st.
