Monday, 18th June 2007 (4401 views) Gold rings, bracelets and earrings are among the pieces of jewellery that have been found in Bulgaria, according to reports.The medieval jewellery was found in between the villages of Topolchane and Kaloyanovo and was discovered by archaeologist Professor Georgi Kitov in the tombs of three women. In total, 11 gold rings, three bracelets and a pair of earrings have been found by Professor Kitov, with the tombs being located in a Thracian mound. "In 13th [to] 14th century BC there was a medieval settlement near the mound," Professor Kitov said, according to the Sofia News Agency. Topolchane is in south-east Bulgaria, some 250 km away from the country's capital, Sofia, according to Guide-Bulgaria. The news agency reports that 12 more mounds are due to be excavated this summer, which could lead to further discoveries, with the recent findings set to go on show in a museum in Sliven, a nearby town.
