A full ten per cent of consumers choosing to buy their dad a Father's Day present will opt to do so with fine jewellery, it has been revealed.

Furthermore, the survey conducted by the Jewellery Consumer Opinion Council (JCOC), for Father's Day 2007, showed that yellow gold is the most popular metal for dad's, with 27 per cent of respondents planning to purchase it.

According to these reports, the survey indicates a clear movement away from diamonds and toward precious metals such as gold.

"While some already plan to buy fine jewellery or a watch for their fathers or husbands, there are many more who could be persuaded to make a purchase," commented Elizabeth Chatelain, president of MVI Marketing Ltd., founder of the JCOC.

"Watches and fashion rings are in demand, with yellow gold and diamonds generating the most interest," she added.

Some of those opting not to buy jewellery for their dad have cited finance as a factor, with 25 per cent saying that jewellery is not in their budget, however, 26 per cent claim they would spend on jewellery if they could find something suitable for $99 (£50).
