Gold leaf facial 'tones skin'

Wednesday, 9th May 2007 (4617 views)

A gold leaf facial treatment was unveiled at the Beautyworld Japan 2007 this week, highlighting another example of the yellow metal's healthy properties.

Japanese firm Umo, who created the treatment, claims that by laying gold leaf onto the face, consumers can benefit from natural skin rejuvenation, firmer skin and a reduction in wrinkles.

The shining gold face mask also provides a bright complexion, according to the company.

On its website, Umo claims that gold slows down collagen depletion in the skin and the breakdown of elastin which keeps skin firm, while the technique also delivers gamma PGA waves from ultrasonic technology, which "locks in moisture and plumps up the skin".

It adds: "Gold is not commonly used for skin treatments because it is very difficult to dissolve and penetrate the skin.

"Umo has designed a special solvent using [its] proprietary gamma PGA/Nano Mist technology to dissolve the gold and carry it across the skin barrier."

The technique costs around 30,000 yen ($300) for a 24-carat gold facial.
