An 18-carat golden mobile phone is set to become one of the most coveted items of jewellery-cum-phone when it goes on sale soon.

The Nokia 8800 Sirocco Gold is inspired by nature as the Sirocco is the name of a wind which originates in the Sahara desert and the golden hue of the phone reflects both the desert and the natural colour of real gold.

Some 18-carat gold is used on the phone and it is said to be an unparalleled expression of personal style and elegance for its owner.

Heikki Norta, the senior vice president of Nokia's mobile phone division, said: "The Nokia 8800 Sirocco Gold is set to continue Nokia's strong legacy in exclusive and highly desirable style accessories.

"The Nokia 8800 Sirocco Gold remains true to the form follows function mantra of Nokia designers and engineers - a tradition built upon decades of experience in mobility."

White gold accents are also used on the phone which is predominantly made of yellow gold and a sapphire coated glass display also features.
