Gold bangle shines bright to scoop awardThe news feeds on this site are independently provided by Adfero Limited © and do not represent the views or opinions of the World Gold Council. Tuesday, 6th March 2007 (5401 views) A gold bangle adorned with more than 600 diamonds has been crowned as the top piece of jewellery at the Diamond Trading Company's Shining Light Awards.Diamonds specifically from South Africa were celebrated at the Tache Company and Vancut Diamond Works sponsored event which saw 880 entries flood into the competition. It was a student, Joyce Coetzee from Tshwane University, who scooped the top award for her 18 carat design that was intermingled with 668 diamonds. The inspiration of the piece was South Africa's natural treasures, a theme that was stipulated to be the common thread running through all the pieces submitted for the award. Aiming to provide coverage of the South African jewellery industry, the awards collection was first launched back in 1996 and a total of ten different designs were selected as best capturing the mood of "Our Diamond Dreams". Last year's event saw former creative director at De Beers Diamond Jewellers Reema Pachachi provide feedback to the participants.
