Ahmedabad could get a jewellery parkWednesday, 14th February 2007 (3183 views) A gem and jewellery park could be constructed in Ahmedabad in north west India, after it emerged that talks are afoot within the industry.India's Financial Express states that industry observers have highlighted the opportunities that will arise for jewellers, diamond polishers and bullion traders should the park become established in the area. Ahmedabad would cater for both the domestic market and foreign buyers alike and other parks have also been built in Rajkot and North Gujarat, industry sources have reported. Advantageous to Ahmedabad is that it has an international airport, thus meaning that the infrastructure is in place to support the influx of buyers visiting the new gem and jewellery park. This is something that Surat lacks in order to make an impact on a global scale. The location of the park is yet to be decided but the state industry department is said to be in talks with the industry players at present and it is believed that the decision of where to situate the trade centre would hinge upon the opinions of jewellers and bullion traders.
