Indian jewellery designs based on ancient art

Thursday, 8th February 2007 (5648 views)

Indian gold jewellery is continuing to go from strength to strength, with one designer from Mumbai the latest to show off an exhibition of her most recent collection.

Roopa Vohra has launched her design range, the Champagne Collection, at a special display in Ludhiana, India, with gold playing a central theme alongside various jewels and glass ornaments.

The traditional look of Indian gold jewellery is still proving highly popular, although Ms Vohra's designs are also inspired by ancient Mughal art such as thewa and nakkashi.

Ms Vohra explained that all of her designs are based on the ancient artwork and celebrates its originality.

"Each and every accessory is original and different from the other," she said.

"When I design I make it a point that every design stands out for itself and that is my unique selling proposition."

The designer travelled around the world to countries such as Cyprus, Turkey and Russia researching the different types of artistic influences to use in her gold jewellery, which is aimed at women of all ages.
