Time called on celeb swag bagsFriday, 12th January 2007 (3283 views) The traditional freebie gift bag full of gold and other lavish items which is given to celebrities during a high-profile event may become an archaic practice if this year's Golden Globe film awards are anything to go by.The 2007 awards are the first year that gift bags have had to undergo scrutiny since the Internal Revenue System in the US began to study the value of the gifts to check if they are valid as taxable income. Gold jewellery, Rolex watches and holidays are just some of the freebies offered to big name stars at events like award shows or posh parties. But from 2007 celebrities will have to pay taxes on the gifts which can roll into thousands of pounds if you consider the value of cruises and diamonds. So instead of golden favours and materialism this year, attendees to the Oscars and the Golden Globes will have to make do with fame and that warm glow inside. The Environmental Media Association is throwing an after-show party for the Golden Globes which will have an eco-theme in order to raise awareness of green issues. Eva Longoria and Paris Hilton are set to attend the do which will feature recycled paper decorations and organic catered food.
