DSF to see increased demand for gold jewellery

Friday, 5th January 2007 (3734 views)

Gold jewellery has always been extremely popular in countries across the globe, but today the trend is moving towards customised jewellery, mixing gold with precious stones to create a unique and personal touch.

And jewellers at the Dubai Shopping Festival (DSF) say such jewels are proving especially popular in the Middle East, with many expecting sales to increase dramatically as the festival gets underway.

"The popularity of gold jewellery especially contemporary designs continues to soar," Moaz Barakat, managing director of the World Gold Council in the Middle East, Turkey and Pakistan, told Trade Arabia.

"The twinkle and glimmer of the yellow metal combined with the intense colours of various stones and pearls is always a big draw.

"Gold is also immensely popular with the Asian community which considers it a safe investment and an alternative to real estate," he added.

The 2006/2007 Dubai Shopping Festival is expected to attract around three million visitors who come to the country looking for a bargain. It began on December 20th and will carry on through to February 2nd.
