Thursday, 4th January 2007 (6368 views) Women in India are swapping their lavish gold jewellery for a lighter type of gold jewellery which they can wear with more flexibility, according to reports.Big jewellers in the country are coming up with ranges of lighter, branded gold gems and this market is growing at around 20 per cent per year according to The Economic Times in India. GS Pillai, who directs Arens Gold Souk International, said: "Since most women are working these days, their preference is tilting towards jewellery which can be worn regularly with both western and Indian outfits. "A trendy pair of light earrings, a delicate neckpiece with a pendant can add shine to one's attire." Leading jewellers such as D'damad, Tanishq, Kiah, Orra, Sparkle, Damas and Ishi are now trying to attract the ages 15 to 30 demographic with lightweight collections of bracelets, necklaces and anklets for the urban woman. The pieces tend to weight between eight grams and 25 grams although some of the wedding rings weigh up to 40 grams.
