Gold thieves caught in IndiaWednesday, 3rd January 2007 (4476 views) The alleged perpetrators of a robbery on the Unnao highway in India have been caught, according to local police after an extensive investigation.A fortnight ago, gold worth around Rs one crore (£116,000) was stolen but the Kanpur Police alongside the Special Task Force have reportedly recovered five gold bricks, jewellery worth Rs 75,000 and Rs 28 lakh in cash have been discovered. Among those apprehended for the crime were a policeman as well as a former army recruit and the group of miscreants were also found in possession of a pistol. Kanpur-based jeweller Kailash Nath Agarwal was targeted during the heist which also involved the murder of his innocent driver by gun shot as he transported the gold consignment to Lucknow on behalf of Mr Agarwal. A reward of Rs five lakh was issued by the jewellery community in the area should the gold be recovered and will be handed out to police party who deciphered the whereabouts of the villains.
