Imelda Marcos 'shoes in' new collectionMonday, 20th November 2006 (3446 views) A brand new jewellery line was launched on November 18th by Imelda Marcos - widow of late Filipino dictator Ferdinand Marcos and famous for her penchant for shoes - fashioned from various things including gold-plated chains.Ms Marcos described her Imelda collection as "worthless and priceless" at the Philippine Plaza Hotel and most of the ensemble incorporates a butterfly and a pair of shoes, both being her trademarks. She had created the items from a mixture of personal accessories as well as newly bought pieces and one example is a hairpin that comprises of antique glass, crystals and white gold plated chain that is on sale for $116 (£61). Speaking about the jewellery launch, Ms Marcos stated it was "worthless because it comes from worthless materials, but it is priceless because it is the creativity that's coming from the soul of human beings to bring out what is beautiful and what is God in them". Ms Marcos received notoriety for her love of shopping and in the wake of her late husband's exile in 1986, she was found to have amassed some 1,200 pairs of shoes.
