Monday, 20th November 2006 (3269 views)

Gold jewellery is to light up the silver screen in Ashutosh Gowarikar's latest film.

Jodha Akbar, which stars Bollywood queen Aishwarya Rai, will feature so much real gold and diamond jewellery that a cohort of 50 security guards have been hired for its safekeeping.

An special room has been set up where a team of 80 handpicked people are busy styling the gold jewellery which will be worn.

An inside source told the Times of India: "A special pagdi has been made for Hrithik Roshan.

"Considering that he plays Akbar, the great Mughal, it's only natural that he will be seen wearing exquisite jewellery pieces. The same goes for Aishwarya's character of Jodha Bai. It will reflect the opulence of that period."

Emerelds, rubies and pearls can all be seen in the film and Tanishq, the leading jewellery brand in India, is providing the gems.

Jodha Akbar also features a plethora of animals including 80 elephants, 100 horses and 55 camels which has prompted animal rights' activists to campaign against the inhospitable conditions which the animals are kept in.
