Points mean gold at American ExpressTuesday, 14th November 2006 (3240 views) American Express, the credit-card provider, has launched First Collection – a reward scheme that means selected customers who use their card for purchases are eligible for a range of expensive gifts such as an 18-carat white gold and diamond Chopard watch.The rewards are only available for American Express Platinum and Centurion Card members and in order to claim a gift, the customer must first accrue a minimum of 20,500 points on their card which will entitle them to a black leather cigar case by Davidoff. American Express has teamed up with a range of partners to provide card-holders with the opportunity to claim anything from a 12-month lease of a Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder 2006-2007 (10.5 million points) to a Piaget Men's Polo 18-carat white gold bracelet watch (2.61 million points). To get one's hands on a Chopard Ice Cube Collection 18-carat white gold and diamond watch, cardholders need to rack up (93.2 million points), the highest total needed to claim a gift under the scheme. "First Collection pairs premium customers with premium brands and a specially-tailored collection of highly desirable rewards," stated Ralph Andretta, senior vice president and general manager of membership rewards at American Express. Chopard was established in 1860 by Louis-Ulysse Chopard and the company now employs 58 watchmakers.
