Thursday, 9th November 2006 (4983 views) Three types of commemorative coins are to go on sale in homage to the 50th anniversary of Universiti Teknologi Mara (UITM), a Malaysian university.Available from the Malaysian Royal Mint and the Money Museum, the coins come in gold, silver and nordic gold and are issued by Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM). All of the coins are limited edition with the 300 gold, 500 silver and 10,000 nordic gold pieces on offer to buyers. The gold coin is the most expensive to purchase and is available for RM 1,028 (£148). The silver coins are priced at RM 138 (£19.85) and the Nordic gold coin can be bought for RM 8 (£1.15). BNM said that the issue of these coins "is in recognition of the significant role and contribution of UITM in nurturing graduates in the areas of business, science and technology". The university was set up in Selangor in 1956 and is linked to many other universities and professional bodies across the world.
