She was able to knock the thieves off their bike where passers-by helped detain one of the men. Police have now managed to catch the robbers who, after targeting women and senior citizens, had amassed jewellery worth in the region of 80,000 rupees (£927) Ms Patel told the Times of India: "That is the only gold I have, which I have preserved for my two daughters." Her determination was characteristic according to one of her neighbours, Razia Shaikh: "Ruksana is a no-nonsense woman. That is why she is feared by anti-socials in the locality. It was indeed a bad day for the chain snatchers when they targeted Ruksana." Ms Patel stated that she was wearing the jewellery for the Muslim festival Eid, which marks the end of Ramadan.
