Gold could help to boost employment levels and conditions among Pakistani women.

Pakistan is keen to increase the expert of gold jewellery alongside gems in order to promote the country's unique culture and style as well as providing new opportunities for women.

Sindh minister for culture, tourism and social welfare Rauf Siddiqui, speaking after the launch of the Women's Gold and Gems Exhibition, stressed that focussing on increasing export levels would bring a number of benefits to the industry and Pakistan in the long-term.

Mr Siddiqui said it was "heartening" that Pakistan is "aggressively" expanding in various areas of business through partnerships between the public and private sector.

He commented that the country's involvement in the implementation of policies and strategies that are "targeted towards overall growth in all the sectors".

It is expected that the new initiatives will include greater promotion of the country's high levels of craftsmanship and design and will provide ideal opportunities for female entrepreneurs.

The Women's Gold and Gems Exhibition was held for the first time in a decade and has helped to showcase the work of around 30 local jewellers.
