Golden gifts exchanged for gift of lifeMonday, 6th November 2006 (3637 views) Gold is increasingly being given to new mothers to help mark the arrival of a baby. With childbirth traditionally being hard work for the female in a relationship, many men are now being encouraged to show their appreciation by rewarding their partner with a gift of gold jewellery, reports the Philadelphia Inquirer. Giving a so-called 'push present' or 'baby bauble' is becoming a must for new fathers and gold is the perfect way to say thank you or well done. "I don't want to say it's a mandatory thing, but from what I've seen with push presents, it's almost like it is becoming expected," explained David Rosnov, owner of Rosnov Jewellers in Jenkintown – located close to a maternity hospital. He added that his store is often frequented by expectant parents and that the dads-to-be then return to buy jewellery when their baby arrives. For many cultures giving gold jewellery is a well-established custom, especially in India, and retailers are keen to help develop the trend. Some makers are already producing ranges aimed solely at new parents to help celebrate the arrival of their offspring.
