Monday, 6th November 2006 (5620 views) Exclusive gold jewellery designed by the jewellery house Boucheron raised $3.2 million (£1.7 million) at the second Reach Out To Asia (Rota) celebrity gala dinner.A total sum of $11.25 million (£5.9 million) was raised at the auction which was run by the prestigious London-based auctioneers Sotherby's and took place in the Qatar capital Doha. The Boucheron jewellery set was fashioned from white gold and was bought by Sheikh Abdulla Al Thani, who then reauctioned the collection to Issa abu Issa. Allied to the jewellery set, the football used in the 2006 world cup final was purchased for $2.4 million (£1.3 million) as the funds raised from the auction beat last year's total of $10 million (£5.3 million). Chairperson of Rota, Sheikha Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, said: "I am delighted that this year's gala dinner proved to be yet another success with more than $11 million (£5.8 million) raised on the night thanks to the generosity of guests digging deep into their pockets to raise money for special projects across Asia." Boucheron's Delilah Trouble jewellery set, exclusively designed for the event, raised $1.6 million (£840,000) and was made from gold and rubies. More than 500 guests attended the Roha dinner and auction at the Ritz-Carlton Doha.
