Halloween: more treat than trick

Friday, 3rd November 2006 (3516 views)

One lucky trick-or-treater received an extra special golden surprise this Halloween.

Among the sweets and chocolate received by one child in Tinley Park in Chicago was a gold and diamond wedding ring.

The jewellery was discovered by mum Cindy Pappas when she was pouring over the confectionary treats accrued by her kids during Halloween night. She saw something "shiny and metallic" and found that the ring had a personal message engraved on it.

She rang the police and said: "The ring must have slipped off the finger of some man passing out candy. I know how upset my husband would be if he lost his wedding ring. And I know how upset I'd be if he lost his wedding ring."

Police Officer Ken Karczewski appealed to the local community for help, writing in the local newspaper: "I was hoping you could help prevent a homicide when the wife of the man who lost his ring discovers it's missing."
