Jewellery Arabia to go ahead as plannedWednesday, 1st November 2006 (3673 views) Jewellery Arabia is set to go ahead as planned next week despite fears that the event may be cancelled due to objections from local jewellers. The event runs from November 7th to 11th this year, takes place at the Bahrain International Exhibition Centre and will play host to some of the jewellery world's biggest names such as De Beers, Cartier and Van Cleef & Arpels. Due to losses in revenue connected with Jewellery Arabia, a total of 240 gold traders had signed a petition addressed to the Bahraini prime minister Sheikh Khalifa bin Salman calling for sales at the exhibition to be halted. Last year the exhibition attracted 34,148 jewellery trade buyers and private collectors which was an increase of 17 per cent on the previous year's event. For this year's Jewellery Arabia a newly built exhibition hall will add a further 3,000 square metres of space, meaning that this year's event will be larger than ever. The 2005 Jewellery Arabia saw 10,235 people arrive at the event from Saudi Arabia, which is the Middle East's largest jewellery market.
