Unclaimed Gold Tiffany buttons to be auctionedMonday, 2nd October 2006 (3615 views) A set of gold Tiffany buttons worth over $5,000 are among a substantial amount of unclaimed items recovered from safety deposit boxes throughout Wisconsin, the Green Bay Press-Gazette reports.Around $300 million of unclaimed property has been found in such boxes in the one state alone, including some important financial documents regarding matured life insurance policies and stocks and shares papers. The 14-carat buttons are just one of several items being put into an online auction by the state, which is expected to pull in around $30,000 in total. The items that could be sold on were advertised for the owner to come forward for two years before being auctioned off. The bidding began on Friday (September 29th) through a specially set up auction site, www.wisconsinsurplus.com, and the buttons are included among 27 different lots that also contain coins and jewellery of varying values. Officials said they had to sell the items to make room in the storage vault, although they did also say if the owner ever came forward after the sales had been completed the proceeds would be returned to them.
