$25,000 Hershey's Kiss makes red carpet debutFriday, 1st September 2006 (4236 views) Awards ceremonies generate a lot of attention among fashionistas over who is wearing what and how it looks, but one item on the Emmy's red carpet last weekend stood out for its meaning as well as its appearance. An 18-carat gold and diamond brooch, designed by acclaimed jewellery-maker Neil Lane to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Hershey's Kisses, was paraded in front of the paparazzi. In addition to its 7 carats-worth of diamonds, around 750 individual stones in all, and its $25,000 price tag, the piece will be sold in an internet auction, ending on September 15th, with all the proceeds going towards several children's charities. The brooch is shaped like one of the small chocolates produced by Hershey's, one of the United States' best-known and best-loved confectioners, although it is worth a good deal more than one of the company's classic sweets. "It's getting a lot of nice attention," said designer spokesperson Tracey Kahn, who said she hoped the piece would fetch a higher price than its reported tag as the purchaser would be getting a piece of history as well as helping out a charitable cause.
