Athlete reunited with medalsThursday, 10th August 2006 (3497 views) Gold medals belonging to the high profile Australian athlete and model Tatiana Grigorieva have been recovered near Brisbane. The pole vaulter won a gold medal at the 2002 Commonwealth Games in Manchester and took home silver from the Sydney Olympics two years earlier. Both medals, along with other medals and jewellery, were stolen from a safe at a friend's business last month. Since the robbery, those two medals had been recovered and police have also now confirmed that more jewellery taken from Ms Grigorieva has been returned to her after being discovered at Wynnum on the Brisbane coastline. Citing "public assistance" as a key factor in the recovery of the stolen valuables, believed to include several items of valuable gold and other expensive mementos, police said the athlete was "surprised and delighted" to have been reunited with the pieces. Although two medals are still missing, a silver from the Melbourne Commonwealth Games and a bronze won at Ms Grigorieva's hometown Goodwill Games in Brisbane in 2001, police have said they are confident they can track down the thieves.
