Jewellery bodies support each other's ethical stanceThursday, 10th August 2006 (4258 views) Two bodies have agreed to work together to promote consumer confidence in the jewellery industry. The World Federation of Diamond Bourses (WFDB) and the Council for Responsible Jewellery Practices (CRJP) have announced their mutual support of one another's systems, despite being different to one another. A release published jointly by both organisations stated: "The CRJP acknowledges the efforts of the WFDB in developing the WFDB Mark, specifically as a compliance system for the use of members of WFDB-affiliated bourses, while the WFDB supports the efforts of the CRJP in the development of its system." The CRJP system is designed to promote responsible practices in the diamond and gold supply chains. It was agreed by the two bodies that consumer confidence had to be promoted by ensuring that ethical standards were upheld and by demonstrating that this was happening. The CRJP believes that "a coordinated worldwide approach to addressing ethical, social and environmental challenges will drive continuous improvement throughout the jewellery industry".
