Wedgwood rejoins sailing World Tour

Thursday, 6th July 2006 (3778 views)

The company founded by the 'father of English potters', Josiah Wedgwood, is to return to the International Sailing Federation's (ISAF) World Tour.

Dating back to 1759, Wedgwood is one of the most famous names in the ceramics industry and it will resume its lucrative relationship with the ISAF, which it had enjoyed between 2000 and 2005.

The company will craft the trophies, which will be gilded by hand with 22-carat gold trim.

They will be awarded for first, second and third place in the ISAF World Match Racing Tour, which concludes at the Locman Cup event at Elba Island, just off the Tuscan coast of Italy, from 11 to 16 July.

"Wedgwood is delighted to be a part of the World Match Racing Tour," said Lord Wedgwood, the eighth generation descendant of the company's famous founder.

"Wedgwood is synonymous with the highest standards of design, craftsmanship, quality and innovation and equally the World Tour delivers the highest standards of sporting competition," Lord Wedgwood added.

"The World Tour is delighted to have Wedgwood back as a sponsor," said Tour president Scott J McLeod. "The trophies will add a touch of elegance."
