Gold pendant auctioned for Salem birthdayWednesday, 14th June 2006 (3706 views) A gold pendant will be auctioned off in Salem, Ohio, to mark the city's bicentennial celebrations for which it was especially designed.Created for the event by master goldsmith Barbara Gillis, the piece has been crafted from 14-carat yellow gold and set with 12 diamonds, the Salem News reports. The design of the pendant reflects the fact that Salem is known as the 'City of Peace' and features a dove carrying an S-shaped ribbon. As a whole the design is intended to represent the journey from 1806 to 2006 and into the future and the piece took more than 30 hours to complete, according to the paper. Gillis and her husband together run Gillis Studios Fine Jewellery and have been producing gold treasures for 30 years.
