Treasures of the twentieth-century TitansThe news feeds on this site are independently provided by Adfero Limited © and do not represent the views or opinions of the World Gold Council. Monday, 12th June 2006 (5143 views) A gold and diamond-studded brooch belonging to Elton John, a panther ornament designed by Cartier for the Duke and Duchess of Windsor, crown jewels and presidential cufflinks are all brought together under one roof for an extraordinary exhibition of modern treasures. All the objects in the "Treasures of the Titans" exhibition, on display until late July in the Forbes Galleries, New York, are valuable status symbols identified with their international celebrity owners. Certain treasures on show commemorate events of world significance, such as the lunar landings, while others are extravagant or understated, classic, personally designed or given as gifts. The exhibition concentrates on treasures created and bestowed since 1950, following the huge success of an exhibition displaying similar valuables from the years 1900-1950. The powerful personages represented by their possessions are very varied. The National Jewellery Institute, which is behind the exhibition, highlights the relationship between an individual's taste and desire for a unique object and the 'symbol' it becomes.
