Gift of gold given away twiceMonday, 12th June 2006 (3585 views) A homeless man who was given a valuable ring in unusual circumstances has chosen to continue the generosity by giving the jewellery to his daughter as a gift.Tim Pockett, who has lived on the streets in Shrewsbury since his marriage broke down in 1990, found a gold solitaire ring set with a 2.5 carat diamond in his begging bowl about a month ago. He told the Daily Telegraph that he heard a man say "That will keep you going for a couple of days," but did not realise at the time that he had been given a hallmarked gold ring. The ring's original owner had seemingly tried to sell the ring in a nearby second-hand jewellery store shortly before giving it away, after his girlfriend apparently rejected it. Mr Pockett said he did not know what to do with the ring at first, but handed it in to the police. After 28 days he was told he was allowed to keep it as nobody had turned up to claim the jewellery. Instead of cashing in on his prize, Mr Pockett also chose to give the ring away to his daughter, Donna.
