Asia Minor lends ancient art to exotic jewelleryWednesday, 7th June 2006 (3620 views) Asia Minor, a specialist fine arts and collectibles dealer based in Houston, Texas, is preparing to launch an exclusive new range of gold jewellery with a trunk show on Saturday, 10th June. The Fibula collection is the latest golden addition to Asia Minor's unique range of exotic decorative arts, which are all handcrafted in Turkey. Asia Minor imports ceramics, silks and rugs, as well as gilded glassware made using techniques based on 18th century Ottoman craft processes. Asia Minor's glass vases, bowls and boxes depict ancient Greek, Roman and Turkish designs. They are etched and then brush-plated by hand with 24 carat gold, creating highly elaborate and luminous pieces. The Fibula jewellery collection will likewise draw on great ancient civilisations for inspiration. The name Fibula denotes a brooch or clasp used by Roman, Greek and European civilisations. Many varieties of the fibula have been found, which are highly prized by collectors. The jewellery held prominent significance for the identity or religious persuasion of the wearer. Asia Minor will donate part of the proceeds from the jewellery launch to the American Red Cross charities.
