A new generation of gold cocktail rings is set to light up the fingers of fashionistas the world over, with trends heading back to a more flamboyant age.

Cocktail rings, which are generally worn on the right hand as a sign of a woman’s individuality, have become bold and beautiful as jewellery houses such as Harry Winston and Tiffany embrace the style.

Carl Blackburn, ring designer and advocate of the cocktail style, said: "The colourful, bold styles are perfect for this time of year, when everything becomes new again."

Among Carl Blackburn's latest collection is a series of 18 carat gold rings adorned with diamonds, topaz, amethyst and quartz – bringing up images of flappers and Gatsby's parties.

"I think of these new rings as timeless, glamorous fun – rings that'll brighten her mood, as well as the mood of the whole party", he concluded.
