A lucky quartet of gold treasure hunters have won the grand-prize of a treasure hunt after successfully solving the final clue.

Teresa Maleki, James Gulley, Chris Grier and Ron McClain figured out the answer to the puzzle just one day before it was due to be announced.

Among their prizes was a 14-carat gold necklace, decorated with a gold Spanish coin that was found on the sunken ship, Nuestra Senora De Atocha.

Mr McClain explained that the quartet had joined forces following last year’s treasure hunt and that "research is the key" to success.

Teresa Maleki will be allowed to keep the gold necklace, while the rest of the team will share the $2,000 cahs prize as well as a trip for two to Tunica, Missouri, US.
