"Priceless" gold football ring returned to ownerMonday, 8th May 2006 (3641 views) A unique gold ring has been returned to American footballer Johnny Rodgers after it was reported stolen around six months ago.The ring was awarded to Mr Rodgers in 1972 in recognition of winning the Heisman trophy. The award is made to the most outstanding college football player at the conclusion of each season. Although the trophy changes hands every year, each winner receives a ring depicting the trophy, which is made in bronze in the shape of a footballer. Mr Rodgers' ring is in the style of the unique commemorative jewellery designed every year for Super Bowl champions and held only by previous winners. Competition among goldsmiths to design and make the ring for the year is intense. Johnny Rodgers' rare Heisman ring contained up to 18 diamonds when it was stolen from him in a grocery store. He had taken the ring off to show a fan. The ring was found in a car park a few days ago, though some of the diamonds are missing from their settings. Even so, the ring is considered "priceless" because of its rarity.
